The Eleanor Kahle Senior Center is operated by the West Toledo Senior People, Inc. a non-profit organization.
Eleanor Kahle was one of the founding members of the organization. She was an active and dynamic member of the Toledo City Council. In 1978, she petitioned the city for the use of the Willys Park Shelter House. The seniors took over the building in 1979 with the grand opening held in September of that year.
Since then, the center has expanded twice through grants and fund-raisers. Eleanor Kahle served as the first Executive Director. After her death in 1995, the Senior Center was renamed in her honor.
